The Mountain Maryland Artist Studio Tours program is an initiative of the Allegany Arts Council located in Cumberland, Maryland. The program takes visitors away from the usual gallery experience to visit artists in their studio environments, where they see artists in their natural habitats.
Held annually, the Artist Studio Tours include member artists of the Allegany Arts Council living and working in Allegany and Garrett Counties. In 2019, 12 studios and 22 artists are represented, with media ranging from jewelry, to ceramics, wood-turning, and furniture design. The tours are self-guided and visitors may view as many studios as they choose.
In 2019, the Artist Studio Tours will take place October 19 and 20 from 11:00AM-5:00PM daily. A special preview of participating artists is available in the Mountain Maryland Schwab Gallery from August 24-September 14, 2019.
People often ask why studio tours are a different experience than seeing an artist’s work in a gallery. Why drive to different places when you can see it all in one environment?
Seeing an artist’s technique, style and most inspiring place is like looking through their eyes and witnessing not only the finished product but the process of creation.
