Born in Austria, award-winning artist Hilmar graduated from the University of Vienna and Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. His interest in Byzantine art took him to Greece and Turkey, where he spent 30 years painting and sculpting. His work is in several museums and has been exhibited in London, Paris, Istanbul and Rockefeller Center in New York City. He was Artist in Residence at the Berkeley School for the Arts, painting archaeological sites around Oaxaca, Mexico, culminating in a show at the Governor’s Palace. He works in stained glass, oil, watercolor, marble and wood. He and his photographer-wife share a studio open to visitors all year.
