When Darrin moved back to Allegany County more than 10 years ago, his ideas about photography changed. “An obsession with capturing images in the urban environment always existed,” he says, “until I reacquainted myself with the beauty of this area.” He now documents the people, mountainscapes and river systems of the Appalachian Mountains. He has embraced the “non-traditional” digital world of photography, pushing the limits of what was once not possible in the darkroom. He was recently awarded “Best of Show” as well as viewer’s choice in the first annual Allegany National Photographic Competition and Exhibition.
